DescriptionThe Duplication of the railway from Walloon to Rosewood opened in June 1918 and the section from Rosewood to Calvert in October 1918. As part of the duplication process, a new (concrete) station was promised for the town, however this took two years to come to fruition. Given that the Great War was raging at the time, the impacts were considerable. Even on the Queensland Railways, where train services were cut, coal was in short supply at times due to industrial troubles and materials were hard to obtain from Britain. While work began in August 1918, by October 1918 the local papers reported that little progress was being made. In late March 1919, an article in the Queenslander Newspaper carried a photograph of the new concrete station noting it had just been occupied by Queensland Railways employees. The new station, in common with other concrete structures such as Ascot and Redbank, had the roof tiled – from stock held at Mayne Junction where a large building program was being undertaken to relocate the engine and carriage sheds from Roma Street. The Rosewood station yards were extremely busy, handling coal traffic from the local mines, including the Marburg branch. In 1952 a turntable was installed allowing locomotives to be able to turn (necessary when working the various local sidings and on the Marburg branch) this was removed in 1972.
