Ipswich Photographic Society

The Ipswich Photographic Society was formed at a meeting in 1953.

In addition to producing prints and slides in the early days, which were entered into competitions, member's activities changed with the times.  During the period between the 1960s and 1980s, some member's skills were extended into producing audio visual programmes.

Working on these productions was good socially for the members.  It afforded social outings where the members and their families could mix and get to know one another better.  After coming up with a script, it gave them the challenge of producing the best shots to illustrate the point.  Then finally came the challenges of adding the sound track.

These productions using slides and sound tapes were entered into interclub competitions locally, as well as in interstate competitions and overseas -some gaining top awards. 

Some of those works have been saved.

Their 1969 production, The Houses of Ipswich, was used by Ipswich City Council as part of an exchange program with Ipswich, England.  The video and photos of mid-century and early house styles are now part of the Picture Ipswich collection.
