DescriptionAnthony competed in weightlifting with the Queensland Weightlifting Association Inc.
In 1994, he was the Queensland Schools Weightlifting Champion.
In 1995, he represented Queensland in National Weightlifting Championships. In that year, he was the Queensland Under 16s 108+ KG Champion, the Queensland Under 18s 108+ KG Champion, the Queensland Under 20s 108+ KG Champion, the Australia Under 16s 108+ KG Champion, the Australia Under 18s 108+ KG Champion, and the Australia Under 20s 108+ KG Champion.
Anthony was the 1995 Queensland Weightlifting Rookie of the Year.
In 1996, he represented Queensland in National Weightlifting Championships and went on to represent Australia in the Junior International Weightlifting Tournament. In that year, he was the Queensland Under 18s 108+ KG Champion, the Queensland Under 20s 108+ KG Champion, the Australia Under 18s 108+ KG Champion, and the Australia Under 20s 108+ KG Champion. He also won a bronze medal for the Australian 108+ KG Open Weightlifting event.
In 1996, Anthony was the Under 18s 108+ KG Weightlifting Champion at the Klosterneuburg Cup, held in Austria, and the Under 18s 108+ KG Weightlifting Champion at the Telstra Junior International, held in Melbourne.
Anthony was the 1996 Queensland Weightlifting Best Junior Male and he attended the Olympic Training Centre with an Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) Scholarship.
In 1997, he represented Queensland in National Weightlifting Championships and participated in the World Junior Championships and Oceania Junior Championships. In that year, he was the Queensland Under 18s 108+ KG Champion, the Australia Under 18s 108+ KG Champion, and the Australia Under 20s 108+ KG Champion. He also won a silver medal for the Australian 108+ KG Open Weightlifting event.
In 1997, Anthony came fifth place in the 108+ KG Class at the Moomba International, held in Melbourne, and he came in ninth place in the Junior World Championships, held in South Africa. He attended the Olympic Training Centre with an ATSI Scholarship and was 1997 ATSI National Junior Sportsman of the Year.
Anthony was awarded $360 as part of the 1997-1998 Ipswich City Council Sporting Bursary.
Anthony Martin would go on to represent Australia in the 2000 Olympics in the men's 105 kg+ super heavyweight weightlifting event.
