E. W. Vance - Chemist
E. Wilson Vance opened his own chemist shop in Central Chambers in Nicholas Street c.1942 after working at Whitehead's Chemist close by.
As well as dispensing drugs the store sold items typically found in chemist shops including: cosmetics, perfumes, powders, toiletries, patent medicines, medical & surgical requirements.
In the 1950s E. W. Vance - Chemist was located between Arthur E. Everding & Son Mercers and Ipswich Hardware. At this time Hargreaves & Palmer Solicitors were trading upstairs, and also an optometrist. Later West Moreton Television Radios & Refrigeration were next door, sandwiched between Vance and Ipswich Hardware.
The business was still operating in 1961.
The building was demolished as part of the CBD revitalisation project in the mid 1980s. This area of Nicholas Street then became part of the Ipswich City Mall until 2021 when its old street name was resumed.
