Celestin was one of a group of prisoners who had been transported from Mauritius, previously a French colony but now British. He was 20 years old when he was convicted and was sentenced to life imprisonment for highway robbery.

In 1841, Celestin could not be found. "The record of the trial is difficult to read, but appears to say that Celestin returned a few hours later carrying a gun, because he had finished his work and had gone to shoot crows. If this is correct, it provides a surprising view of life at the Limestone Station. Celestin was found guilty of being absent without leave".

In 1843 and 1844, Celestine was 'constantly in reports to the Colonial Secretary for his hard work". He disappeared in October 1845, never to be heard of again.
