On 31 December 1838 the following is recorded in the Book of Trials held at Moreton Bay:
Neglect of Duty. Overseer Allen sworn states the Prisoner is in charge of a Flock of Sheep at the Lime Stone Station, and has lost several of his Sheep by Native Dogs, and on Saturday last, I found on counting the Sheep that one was missing, and two others had been injured by Dogs, at this time the man had gone out to look for the absent Sheep & the flock I found in charge of the Watchman when prisoner came home, I asked him what became of the Sheep and he replied, tis more your business than mine to look after the Native Dogs, and that he would report me when he had an opportunity.
Sentence 25 Lashes.
