Discover the origins of the RAAF from the beginning of military aviation in Australia with the creation of the Australian Flying Corps in 1912 to the present day.
From its humble beginnings, the RAAF undertook many epic flights and survey tasks for economic and expanding civil aviation within Australia and its Territories. Furthermore, with the advent of World War II, it became an expeditionary force across the world not only engaging in wars but undertaking a range of peace keeping and humanitarian missions which continues today.
For the last 81 years RAAF Amberley has played a major role in supporting and being home to squadrons that provide this assistance.
About Clive Wells:
Wing Commander Clive Wells enlisted in the RAAF in January 1974 as a Business Studies Cadet. He was commissioned in 1976 as a Supply Officer.
During his 40 years within the permanent Air Force, Clive served at various bases throughout Australia and overseas including HQ ISAF, Kabul and Afghanistan. Transferring to the Active Reserve in 2014, he is currently the Officer in Charge of the RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre.
Clive has a keen interest in the preservation of military history and enhancing visitor experiences.
