TitleTelling Their Stories - Chasing Our Past At Home
Date Created10th November 2020Program Chasing Our Past At HomePresenterEdwin HabbenHostMelanie RushModeratorDeannah VeithAcknowledgementEdwin HabbenIpswich LibrariesPicture IpswichDescriptionEddie Habben will talk about researching and publishing the biographies of the men and women of Ipswich and surrounds who sacrificed their lives in World War II.
His book brings together years of research which included reading every edition of The Queensland Times from September 1939 until the latter end of 1946. Hear how he engaged with families who shared photos, memorabilia and records and how he travelled overseas on a pilgrimage to graves in Singapore and Thailand to honour them with crosses made by Ipswich Men’s Shed.
Eddie will also give his insights on how to go about researching information on family members who served and writing their stories.
About Eddie Habben -
Eddie served in Royal Australian Air Force prior to studying psychology at The University of Queensland. After graduating Eddie worked for the public service as a psychologist and after becoming interested in military psychology, Eddie then served for 32 years with the Australian Army Psychology Corps, Australian Army Reserve. During that time he changed careers and became a teacher and Secondary Guidance Officer with Education Queensland until he retired in 2002. In the same year, Eddie was appointed Secretary of Ipswich Sub-Branch, RSL Queensland and discovered little was recorded about Ipswich service personal who lost their lives in World War II. This spurred him to embark on the project which led to the publication of ‘Ipswich and District Roll of Honour – W.W.2'References (online)Click here for high resolutionRead More At Ipswich LibrariesIpswich and District Roll of Honour W.W.2.
