Jim Gardiner Pool
Description
History
Jim Gardiner was a swimming coach in Ipswich for many years, having coached more than 25,000 local children and adults. He was named Ipswich Citizen of the year in 1974 and received the British Empire Medal in 1979. The pool was opened in 1961, and officially named the Jim Gardiner Swimming Centre in 1981. The pool was demolished in 2000 and a Commemorative Gateway was opened in 2003.
