Description88 Chermside Road. The company, Worley and Whitehead, were contracted to build both the Ipswich Girls Grammar School and this house in 1891. The grounds once extended towards Brisbane Street and included a tennis court, orchard and gardens. The architect was George Brockwell Gill. The Haigh family wanted a large substantial home for themselves and their four children. The home was named after the village near Leeds, in England. The name was changed, for a time, to 'The Oasis' in 1944.
