Description
Building TypeResidentialHistory
Worley and Whitehead who were the contractors for the Ipswich Girls' Grammar School were also the contractors for this residential building, both contracts were awarded in 1891. The grounds of "Dorrington" located at 88 Chermside Road, East Ipswich, once extended towards Brisbane Street and included a tennis court, orchard and gardens. The brick home was designed by prominent Ipswich architect George Brockwell Gill.
Dorrington was the home of William Henry Haigh, his wife Elizabeth (nee Cribb) and their four children. The home was named after the village near Leeds, in England. The name was changed, for a time, to 'The Oasis' in 1944.
