This was a period that saw Ipswich houses move away from the classic Queenslander, as housing styles transitioned from the Austerity designs of the immediate post-war era to architecturally designed Mid-Century Modern classics.

Illustrated with photographs from the Picture Ipswich collection, historian and digital archivist Melanie Rush will weave a history of Ipswich in the middle of the 20th Century, as she re-evaluates a style of house design that, until now, has been underappreciated.

Melanie has been active in the history and heritage community in Ipswich for over fifteen years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts and three post graduate qualifications. Melanie has been the Digital Archivist with Picture Ipswich since March 2019.
