Cambrian Store
The former Cambrian Store, at 18 Thomas Street, Blackstone, was the original shop for Dave Thomas, who lived next door at 20 Thomas Street. Thomas, a baker, established his business around 1887, with the bakery located at the rear of the shop.
The timber shop is of a square plan, low set on timber stumps, close to the street alignment. The external walls were lined internally with horizontal chamfer boards, with an exposed timber frame. The steeply pitched hip roof was of corrugated iron, with a triangular shaped weatherboard parapet facing the street, and corrugated iron bull-nose awning supported by timber posts. The shop front had a recessed front door, with fixed, multi-paned windows on either side. A skillion roofed, weatherboard extension was located on the southeasterly wall. The bakery at the rear was demolished in the early 1990s.
During the early hours of Thursday 28th April 2022, the building was destroyed by fire.
