Former Loetzsch Silver Cyclery
The original owner of the land was James Gibbon. He purchased the property in June 1854 and sold it to John Byrne in February 1883.
Well-known Ipswich architect, William Haenke purchased the property in July 1886. He took out a mortgage for two hundred and fifty pounds, he transferred the property to his father, Johann Wilhelm Haenke in 1897. Johann operated his fruit shop from this site from 1895 until his death in 1900. Mr. W. Watson, fruiter was running his business here by 1916.
The Loetzsch family's association began in 1948 when Wilhelm Alfred Loetzsch purchased the building. His eldest son Adelbert 'Bert' who established a repair business for cycles and motorcycles in the mid 1920s, sold his Malvern Star Cycle Business to Alf Bishop in 1936. He relocated to 223 Brisbane Street and with the help of his brother Vic, they repaired second-hand bicycles and motorcycles here.
