The Viola Cake Shop was on Brisbane Street beside the Ipswich Fruit Mart that was next to the Queensland Times newspaper which was situated on the corner of Ellenborough and Brisbane Streets. They served “Morning & Afternoon Teas, Light Refreshments, and Pauls Ice Cream”. The shop sold scones, pastry and cakes.

In 1930 Thompsons Butchery was next door to the Viola.

The Viola re-opened on 1 March 1940 after being modernised.

The Viola was at one time, owned by Iain and Lesley Cameron.

In 1954 The Viola and the Dorothybelle Cake Shop, located at 91 Brisbane Street, came under the same management of Messrs. Cuthbert and Whitehead.

W B Parkinson, Auctioneer and Commission Agent was in the same building.
