Description

DescriptionBeautification works and installation of stone kerbing was initiated as part of the Great Depression relief work for the unemployed. Intermittent Relief Work was first instituted in Ipswich on 5 May 1931.

Funding was used in road works, drainage and bridge repairs initially. As time passed, men also worked in quarries, helped with the construction of the water tower on Denmark Hill, built fences and footpaths.
