    By: Geoff Thompson19th Jun 2022 12:11AMTed was my grandfather. He told me and my brother that the shells used to burst and send six foot long pieces of jagged, hot metal flying through the air. He told us details of the worst case he ever saw there, too gruesome to share here.
    We had been hero worshiping Churchill and he said "Churchill was a great man but he wasn't an Australian". Of course the Gallipoli campaign was Churchill's idea. I think that's why Ted told us some of what war was really like.
