Description
DescriptionFeaturing an attic with its own balcony and a small front veranda, Toronto was built around 1863 for Elizabeth Lloyd, widow of Bank Manager, Augustus Cox Lloyd. Known initially as Devonshire Cottage, the house was rented to Reverend Dr Mossop in 1870. It has been owned by William Tamlyn, secretary and business manager of the Queensland Woollen Manufacturing Company, who in 1882 sold it to James Alexander Jackes, who renamed it Toronto. In 1914 he sold it to Josephine Rowlands, daughter of Dr Thomas Rowlands and secretary of the Ipswich Red Cross during World War 1. She lived in the home until she died in 1939. D. Medlin and the Follett family also owned the home at times.References (offline)See Ipswich City Council 'Heritage Study, 1992'
