DescriptionCopy of original Mathewson & Co. Carte de Visite image. Samuel Welsby was a teacher who arrived in Moreton Bay in 1849 on the 'Fortitude. With Doctor Challinor’s support, Samuel began to run regular religious services in Ipswich. He was also a homeopath. He taught at a private school, Mona College, in Ipswich around 1850, was a deacon of the United Congregational Church, and a foundation member of the Ipswich Literary Society which became the School of Arts Committee.
