Description

DescriptionGovernor Blackall was the second Governor of Queensland from 1868 to 1871. The memorial was built in 1879 and was originally a drinking fountain. The memorial stood on the corner of Nicholas and Brisbane Streets, at the rear of St Pauls Church of England. The architect was F.D.G. Stanley. It was moved to the corner of Outridge Street and Chelmsford Avenue, Denmark Hill, Ipswich in 1927 when the traffic became too busy around Nicholas and Brisbane Streets.

The plaque reads: "Ipswich City Council ‘this drinking fountain was erected as a memorial to Governor Blackall at the intersection of Brisbane and Nicholas Streets, Ipswich in 1879. Transferred to this area in 1927, it was restored and set in these gardens when the Denmark Hill Environmental Park was established in 1979.’"
