Queens Arms Hotel
Description
Business TypeHotelsHistory
George Thorn built the Queen's Arms Hotel, which was the first licensed hotel in Ipswich. It opened in 1843 and was located on Brisbane Street at the corner of East Street. The architect was A. Petrie, and Messrs. T. Boyland and Reid were the builders. By 1861 the hotel was re-named the Clarendon Hotel.
On 18 January 1875 the hotel was destroyed by fire. A new building would be erected here that was bought by the Queensland National Bank in 1881.
