Zupps Motors
John Zupp opened his Volkswagen dealership in 1948 in Ipswich.
By 1954 the company had a showroom at 34-36 Brisbane Street and were dealing in Caltex products. By the late 1950s Zupps was located at 40-42 Brisbane Street, now the site occupied by Hog's Breath Cafe.
By 1963 Zupps Used Cars division was located at corner of Brisbane and Mortimer Streets, Ipswich. A close neighbouring business was the Ipswich Bowling Alley located at the corner of Brisbane and Thorn Streets. In the 1980s there were Zupps branches at 14 Brisbane Road, Dinmore and 246 Brisbane Road, Booval.
Some 1960s employees would go on to operate their own automotive businesses in Ipswich: Graham Merrill, Ross Llewellyn, and Snow Currie. Bobby Mack was associated with Amoco Fiveways following his employment at Zupps.
The Zupps name has endured and in 2007 it became a part of the Automotive Holdings Group, although some of their dealerships still operate under the Zupps brand.
In 2019 Automotive Holdings Group was acquired by A.P. Eagers.
Although the brand and name lives on, Zupps no longer have a presence in Ipswich.
