Tattersall's Private Hotel was in existence by at least 1862. It was located at the corner of East and South Streets, Ipswich. This would later be the site of Mulholland's Boarding House, Percward flats (1939), Faulkner Motors, a video shop (1993), and since then the Ipswich Global Information Centre housing Ipswich Library until 2021.

Licensees were: Michael Ford from 1862-1863, George Lennon 1863-65 and 1868-69, John Lennon was proprietor and licensee 1865-68, Joseph Lennon 1869 until 1873.

In 1867 a couple of dentists, Mr Wilson and Mr D.R. Eden, would visit Ipswich and see patients there.

Mr Backler, a portrait artist visited in 1865 and retained a studio in the hotel.
