Description
DescriptionThe Ipswich Bowling Alley was opened in 1962 on the corner of Brisbane and Thorn Streets. The 10-pin bowling alley was met with some controversy as the council proposed changing by-laws to enable it to open seven days a week. Bowling was regarded as a form of commercial recreation, despite a local poll at the time showing support for sport on Sundays. The bowling alley remained popular for several years, but was closed in 1970 with the building reopening as Jenyns bra factory on the 1st September 1970. The 40,000 sq.ft factory area, known as the 'Bra Factory', had 443 employees and 45,000 garments a week were being made for the Triumph label. The factory closed in the early 1990s.
