Ipswich Bowling Alley
Description
Organisation TypeSports GroupsHistory
The Ipswich 10 Bin Bowling Alley opened on the corner of Brisbane and Thorn Streets in 1962.
By 1966, the building had become the Wonderland Ballroom. One of the members of the Ipswich Genealogical Society saw the Bee Gees play at the Ballroom in the 60s and recalled that the Bee Gees had come from Toowoomba.
The House of Jenyns established in Brisbane by Sarah Ann and Ebenezer Jenyns, opened on this site circa 1980. It was known locally as "Jenyns Bra Factory" or the "Bra Factory".
The building went on to become the home of GRIPswich, a dedicated indoor climbing gym. Gripswich opened to the public on Saturday, 20 June 2026, after a members only launch on Friday, 12 June 2026.
