DescriptionWorker operating the Spinning Mules at the Ipswich Woollen Mills, Joyce Street, East Ipswich, 1950s. Ipswich Woollen Mills were originally the Cotton Mills. They were taken over by the Joyce Brothers in 1907. The cotton mill was closed in 1913 and converted to a woollen mill. After the carding machines have opened up the wool to comb it, the wool comes out in a long twist ready for these spinning mules.
