Description

DescriptionThe USAF (United States Armed Forces) Military Cemetery, located on 19 Cemetery Road, Raceview, was established in 1942. During WWII many American servicemen died or were killed in action in Australia and South East Asia. In November 1947 the graves were exhumed with the help of 190 civilians and the dead were returned to their native country. The cemetery and more than 1,200 graves were tended to throughout WWII by Rose Manson, who placed flowers on the soldier’s graves. The park was later named Manson Park in honour of Rose. The unidentified person at the memorial may be Rose Manson.
