Recollections
AddBy: Jane Schy3rd May 2026 5:37PMSilkstone Auto Centre was opened by my father Bevan James Boisen in 1961 on land situated one block back from the corner of Blackstone Road and Cole Street. My father and my Uncle Cecil Wenzel owned the land. They were partners in Silkstone Self Service, which they acquired in 1958. The store was on the left side of the block and the right side was vacant. Prior to building the service station, my father ran a small used car yard on the vacant side. He ran Silkstone Auto Centre (Shell) with a bowser boy for 2 years. He was hoping to acquire the corner property from Frank Brown to expand the business, but when circumstances changed that, Dad sold the garage to Jack Young in 1963. Our family car, a 1953 Customline (pink) is parked next to the service station. by Jane Schy
