Blue Star Service Station
The Blue Star Service Station was at Blacksoil ( Ironpot Creek) on the Toowoomba Highway (later to be Warrego Highway). Prior to construction of the Blue Star Service Station a timber home standing to the rear of the site had to be demolished. Some of the timber from the home was used in the construction of the Blue Star.
Cecil Dorman opened the business in March 1954 on the same day Queen Elizabeth II came to Brisbane. There was no electricity and petrol was pumped by hand.
The Blue Star Service Station was a 24-hour business, selling Mobil products. It was a well known landmark.
By at least 1959 there was a motel behind the service station called the Blue Star Motel. The motel used converted huts from the RAAF Base Amberley.
The Dorman family left the business in 1978.
