Description

DescriptionThe Bank of New South Wales was first established in 1817 and changed its name to Westpac Banking Corporation in 1982. The first Ipswich branch was opened in 1853 at the corner of East and Brisbane Streets, relocating to the corner of Bell and Brisbane Streets in 1932. The façade of the building was modernised on several occasions. The building to the left (Bell Street) houses the chambers of Walker and Walker Solicitors and the Darling Downs Building Society. On the right (Brisbane Street) is K A Shewan and E R Turner, Chemist, a florist, an estate agency and Mining and Hardware.
