DescriptionThe Palais Royal was on the corner of East and Brisbane Street. The building was originally built in 1859 as the residence of George Thorn Snr, becoming the Palais Royal Hotel after his death in 1876. It was demolished in the 1970s and replaced with the Ipswich Tavern and later Bendigo Bank. Henry P. M. Biltoft was the licensee between 1925 and 1939. After he was lost at sea in June his widow, Maude, would become the official licensee in January 1941. This image was taken before 19 June 1961 when Brisbane Street traffic changed from two-way to one way.References (offline)Queensland Times, 2-11-1984
