their ch[...]ptures the story of
Ipswich Kindergarten, from its[...]owth. It includes many photographs and memories.

Ipswich Kindergarten is proud of its role as a community[...]this institution
has made to the young people of Ipswich. Many families have worked
hard over the y[...]rsary
ursary as she was a former pupil at Ipswich Kindergarten.

The booklet will make a significant contribution to Ipswich
Kindergarten’s 75th Anniversary celebrations in[...]ul Pisasale
City of Ipswich[...]
[...]wn to her, Margaret Cook’s association with the Ipswich
Kindergarten began in the 1940s when her mother w[...]ommittee.

For many who have been associated with Ipswich Kindergarten, it is a
special place and holds a place in people’s hearts. It is an iconic
Ipswich institution which has educated hundreds of pre-sc[...]n and grandchildren of earlier pupils. Throughout
IpswichIpswich. Perhaps the most notable constant of all[...]rector since 1976. She has become synonymous with Ipswich
Kindergarten. This book is a celebration of 75 ye[...]the efforts of all those who have worked to make Ipswich
Kindergarten a great place.

Ipswich Kindergarten
Association Formed
Miss Marjorie Why[...]ten to become the responsibility of the people
of Ipswich, so it was decided that a Committee of Lad[...]iday 22 October 1937 in the Council
Chambers. The Ipswich Kindergarten Association was formed on 5
November[...]he next month on 3 December. It is
this date that Ipswich Kindergarten Association considers its
inception,[...]le could subscribe annually
to be a member of the Ipswich Kindergarten Association for an
annual fee[...]

number of subscribers at[...]

continue operating Ipswich Kindergarten and Miss Langdon’s

party has remained an Ipswich Kindergarten tradition ever since.

After the official ceremony, guests[...]ed entertainment
in the grounds. The stalwarts of Ipswich Kindergarten had been busy
organising stal[...]
[...]rees at the request of the Committee.

in Ipswich.29 In appreciation of this work Dr Patters[...]of Picture Ipswich, Ipswich City Council

An ambitious fête was held in the grounds of Ipswich Girls’ Grammar
School and together with the mon[...]he bulk of the work over recent years.32

In 1955 Ipswich Kindergarten Association was registered under the[...]dergarten
Association (C& K)
In December 1955 the Ipswich Kindergarten’s application to join the
C[...]
[...]a children’s favourite, before it was painted

Ipswich Kindergarten has always been committed to[...]
[...]he sincerely thanked her for
all she had done for Ipswich Kindergarten and Miss Osborn was given
a farewell[...]ent that her successor would have a happy time at Ipswich
Kindergarten.40




A Rough Patch
Mr Beirne stood[...]ong
service of Miss Osborn and Mr Beirne. In 1958 Ipswich Kindergarten
reverted to two classes with an enro[...]rs Allen)
and Miss Whitehead (Mrs Armstrong) both Ipswich students who had
undertaken training at Ipswich Kindergarten in 1958.

In 1959 Ipswich Kindergarten was confronted with a change in
Gove[...]ed the finances of the
Kindergarten.. Until then, Ipswich and Ashgrove Kindergartens had[...]
[...]ed
with the Crèche and Kindergarten Association, Ipswich Kindergarten
would receive £300 per annum.42 The[...]of C & K a new constitution was ratified in
1962. Ipswich Kindergarten was proud of its affiliation with C & K. In
the 1960s it was the only affiliated centre in Ipswich and was one of
the few that met the high requirem[...]unding. It claimed to be the only Kindergarten in
Ipswich that employed a full time Director and profession[...]ahead in Queens Park as well as see
her twice in Ipswich. Photographs of the Royal Family were displ[...]

Brisbane Street, Ipswich.

A new tradition was introduced in 1961 wh[...]
[...]of the Kindergarten
Training College, returned to Ipswich Kindergarten in 1967 as the
Director and Teacher[...]tary
position in order to become a Teacher at the Ipswich Kindergarten.
Mrs Cross was appointed Dire[...]
[...]tor) which was donated to the Kindergarten by the Ipswich City
Council in September 1966. It became[...]
[...]which began her 40 year teaching association with Ipswich
Kindergarten.

Vicki Doig’s association with th[...]in the
1950s. In 1952 her sister Regina attended Ipswich Kindergarten and
her mother, “Bubby” Doig bec[...]ndergarten
Committee. Vicki Doig herself attended Ipswich Kindergarten in 1954.
Vicki’s uncle had been in[...]he Kindergarten to the Doig family.
Vicki came to Ipswich Kindergarten in 1965 as a work experience
student[...]1 Four years later she was
appointed a Teacher at Ipswich Kindergarten.

Towards the end of 1971, th[...]
[...]C & K stated that two Assistants were
required if Ipswich Kindergarten was to comply with their regu[...]

Ipswich Kindergarten certainly reached a financial[...]
[...]ese groups throughout Queensland.54 Despite this,
Ipswich Kindergarten enjoyed full enrolment throug[...]
[...]overnment, in 1974 Ipswich
Kindergarten
ergarten was able to secu[...]
[...]en Committee.
Keith Hayes had been elected to the Ipswich Kindergarten Committee
in 1967 and stayed there u[...]dent. A surveyor by profession
with a practice in Ipswich, he was a very
hands-on President who spen[...]nev forgotten his
Ipswich Kindergarten and often dropped in to see h[...]
[...]y had provided 20% of the Kindergarten’s funds.
Ipswich Kindergarten, both its staff and Committee, was the driving
force in the Ipswich area when lobbying the State Government for

School, Ipswich Girls’ Grammar School and as Treasurer of the C[...]a six years at Ipswich

The late 1980s were fabulous years for Ipswich Kindergarten. The
staff were happy and dedicated.[...]ere united in their hard work and drive to assist Ipswich
Kindergarten. The building was well-mainta[...]
[...]hat once again everyone
wanted to do the best for Ipswich Kindergarten.

At the end of the 1992 the[...]
Ipswich Kindergarten was the first C & K Kindergar[...]
[...]94.70

With the licensing requirements fulfilled, Ipswich Kindergarten
administration was greatly re[...]
[...]annon Schooling who died in 1997. As a student at Ipswich
Girls’ Grammar School (IGGS) she had frequently[...]flower garden which in 2000 won 3rd prize in the
Ipswich Garden Festival. In 2001 Mrs Beth Schooling[...]Sch was granted Life
Membership of Ipswich Kindergarten.

The year 1997 was the 60th anniversary of the Ipswich Kindergarten
Association and the Milford Street b[...]T at
Ipswich
ch Kindergarten. The Sunday Fun Day[...]
[...]the occasion and the beloved tractor was painted. Ipswich
Kindergarten had come a long way since 1937 and c[...]leading provider of early childhood education in Ipswich.[...]

Miss Vicki Doig celebrated 30 years at Ipswich Kindergarten in 2001.
President Savas[...]iss Doig a friend. I have said on other occasions Ipswich
Kindergarten is Miss Doig and Miss Doig is Ipswich Kindergarten.

performances at Ipswich Little Theatre each year. Excursions varied,
ofte[...]ies, with visits to the RAAF base,, St Andrew’s Hospital or
Ebenezer Coal Mine included in the year[...]
[...]Ipswich Parade in[...]Kindergarten Association
and participated in the Ipswich Festival Parade marching with mums,
dads,
ads,[...]ts and hats. In May they entered a display at
the Ipswich Show and were awarded third place.[...]
[...]e, raffles, family portraits and toy
catalogues.

Ipswich Rotary Club donated $4200 to Ipswich Kindergarten in 2002
which was the proceed[...]
[...]who turned five by June
30. This would impact on Ipswich Kindergarten as the pre-school[...]rgarten included three
to four year olds. In 2005 Ipswich Kindergarten introduced[...]half
years old to prepare for these changes.

Festival parade, held an Open Dayay and a display in the Ipswich Library[...]

excursions included Ipswich Little Theatre and the Ipswich Library.

projects. Ipswich Kindergarten must have been his second hom[...]
[...]y cake, party food, a choir and a jumping castle. Ipswich City
Council generously gave a $5000 cheque and a certificate of
appreciation to Miss Doig. The oldest Ipswich Kindergarten student,
Dorothy Roach (Johnson), he[...]pertise, Ross Llewellyn Motors donated materials, Ipswich
City Council donated the plants and Sapar[...]
[...]in 2008 was with Michael Beckman
and his staff at Ipswich Art Gallery, as well as Ipswich Events
Corporation which set up marquees in D’A[...]lls, a ride for the children
and sausage sizzle.

Ipswich Kindergarten was a finalist in the Business Achie[...]r
nine and a half years, to take up employment at Ipswich Junior
Grammar School. Kristie Burkin became the[...]n is strongly directed by Ms Doig, an icon
in the Ipswich community and a referent power in the Kindergarten
community in Ipswich. Her strong views and vast experience prov[...]each year.81 Her expertise
was recognised beyond Ipswich Kindergarten as in 2008 she was[...]
[...]ward at the Ipswich Business

kindergartens. Much deliberation followed and Ipswich Kindergarten
formed a committee to investi[...]
considered a massive cut in funding for three year olds. Ipswich
Kindergarten took a lead role in the Ipswich/West Moreton region
inviting other kinderg[...]
In 2010 Suzanne Austin left the staff after nine years at Ipswich
Kindergarten. Shee was sadly missed, but not for[...]s.

In 2010 Ipswich Kindergarten[...]funding In 2011 Ipswich

[...]by a new national body, was put in place. In 2012
Ipswich Kindergarten had two groups at the beginning of t[...]constants at Ipswich
Kinder[...]attending the Ipswich Little[...]
[...]10 and 2012 and Kristie Burkin since 2008.

Ipswich Kindergarten enjoys an excellent reputation. On 5[...]Kindergarten families marched proudly behind the Ipswich
Kindergarten banner in the Ipswich Parade with children dressed in
period costumes m[...]nymous with
Ipswich Kindergarten, with history[...]thing about
Ipswich Kindergarten that brings you[...]

Two
wo third generation children commenced at Ipswich Kindergarten in
2011.. Blade Arthur followed his[...]his father
Ben and grandfather Bill all attended Ipswich Kindergarten and his
mother Elizabeth Rawlings wa[...]ry 2012 Miss Vicki Doig stood on the stage of the Ipswich
Civic Centre as a finalist in the annual competition for Ipswich Citizen
of the Year. Although not the winn[...]
[...]forty years of
dedicated service and teaching at Ipswich Kindergarten. For more
than half of the Kindergarten’s history Vicki Doig has educated
hundreds of young Ipswich children and now, in some cases, their
children a[...]strong as the day she started. She is so proud of
Ipswich Kindergarten and what it has achieved, and rightly so.

For 75 years Ipswich Kindergarten has remained strong. It has
weathere[...]providing pre-school education to the children of Ipswich. Over the
years the Kindergarten has enjoyed the support of the Ipswich
community and the many families who have sent the[...]Committees, all of whom have been proud to serve Ipswich
Kindergarten for their brief period of custodians[...]atmosphere, where above all, children
come first. Ipswich Kindergarten holds a special place in many hearts
and without doubt it is an iconic Ipswich institution.
