First Premier of Queensland was Robert Herbert (10th December 1859 to 1st February 1866). He was a member of the Squatter Conservative party and represented the seat of Leichhardt.

George Thorn Jr.was the 9th Premier of Queensland (6th overall) (5th June 1876 to 8th March 1877), an Independent representing the seat of Ipswich.

Queensland's second Premier, Arthur Macalister (serving multiple terms from 1st February 1866 to 20th July 1866; 7th August 1866 to 15th August 1867; and 8th January 1874 to 5th June 1876), was an Independent who represented first the Town of Ipswich and then Ipswich.
