Thanks so much for the memories here. I was taught to swim in the baths in the early 50's by Jim Gardiner who then trained me until I gave up swimming in favour of bike racing in the late 50's. In those days it was believed that bike riding was detrimental to the muscles used for swimming!!
My club was Vikings who met on Thursday nights. Like Peter McMahon (Hi Peter!- excellent comments) above I also swam in the Warren Pennants teams against Toowoomba and some state and district championships.
From memory the baths were 33 yards long and 12 yards across so as metric distances were emerging a 100 metre race consisted of three laps plus a portion of the fourth lap and finishing on a rope across the pool which was hastily added after the last swimmer finished the third lap!! All pretty technical!!
Thanks Peter also for the names of some of our fellow competitors - certainly brings back memories, although I was in one lower age group. Lots of other names come to mind also.

Hi Bevan, thanks for commenting on the By the Bremer site. It's great to have even more memories of the Baths of Ipswich.
