ELECTRIC LIGHT AT NORTH IPSWICH. Messr. Pommer Bros. have recently installed the electric light at their Butter factory at North Ipswich. The plant was put 'in by Messrs. Noyes Bros., of Sydney, for whom Mr. C. E. Bernays is the Brisbane agent. All arrangements were completed by Tuesday last, and the place was lighted up in the evening. Besides the 'ordinary' lights in the interior, a big 1000-candle arc lamp has been placed in front of the building. This gives a very brilliant light, and attracted quite a crowd of people, who were much struck with it. The dynamo is worked by the ordinary engine at the factory. It is a 2-kilo watt machine, running 10 lights, each of 16 candle power, inside the factory in addition to the large arc lamp. Mr. W. R. Hansell has superintended the erection of the Plant on behalf of Messrs. Noyes Bros. The lighting is to be continued every night this week. Messrs. Pommer Bros. state that they are prepared to guarantee effective electric lighting for foot-racing on the North Ipswich reserve. They are certainly to be commended on their enterprise, which will probably stimulate other firms to install a similar system of illumination.

When did City Electric Light take over Ipswich Electric Supply Company?
Librarian response:
31/07/2012
in regards to your question, I found the following information about the City Electric Light Company Limited on the Queensland State Archives site - http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/AgencyDetails.aspx?AgencyId=401#bookmarkDescription.
Apparently, the Ipswich Electric Supply Company Ltd ceased operations on 2nd September 1941. "This company had acted as a subsidiary company of City Electric Light Company in Ipswich and the surrounding districts since 28 August 1917. Due to the discrepancies in prices being charged by the two companies, the State Electricity Commission forced the Ipswich company to merge with its parent and consolidate operations."
The following Queensland State Archives link also provides information about the Ipswich Electric Supply Company Ltd - http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/Search/AgencyDetails.aspx?AgencyId=993#bookmarkDescription
