'Can anyone pin point where Oakey Creek Bundamba was. My grandfather, Frederick Palmer was born there in 1879. My Great Grand Father, Henry Palmer, owned 138 acres at portions 98 and 99, Parish of Bundamba, County of Stanley which he purchased in 1872. Palmer's Aberdare Colliery was on this block. I am not certain if this is where my grandfather was born.'

When researching Oakey Creek, we discovered that it was referred to as Oaky Creek or Oakey Creek depending on the resource.

Oaky Creek, Bundanba (Bundamba) branches off from Bundamba Creek and is located between Blackstone and Swanbank, Ipswich. We have a copy of a Redbank Plains map from 1930 showing Oaky Creek and portions 98 and 99 that your Great Grandfather Henry Palmer owned. We were also able to locate information on Palmers Aberdare Colliery from a copy of "Coal in Queensland: From Federation to the Twenties" by R L Whitmore. You are welcome to visit the Local History Room of the Ipswich Central Library to view these items.
