DescriptionDisplaying the Charles Hope Cold Flame refrigerator. After being retrenched from Queensland Railways in 1931, electrician Roy Thomas Edwards started his door to door electrical repair business with a bicycle and carrying his tools. From these beginnings his brothers, Allan and Mervyn would join the business and they would start to sell electrical goods. By 1981, they were employing around 110 people, and selling all types of household goods and furniture. (From ‘The Queensland Times, ‘R.T.Edwards 50th Anniversary’ supplement. 31 March 1981). The Company would go on to employ over 320 staff. Roy Edwards was on the Ipswich Council from 1949 to 1961.
