Description

DescriptionOn 11 March 1855, the first Congregational Church building was opened in Brisbane Street. When a new chapel was built on the site in 1871, the first church became the Sunday School. The flood of 1893 submerged the chapel and caused the Sunday School building to collapse completely. (Information taken from: Jubilee History of Ipswich edited by Geo Harrison, 1980:94-95) F. D. G. Stanley was the architect for the 1871 building. Stanley also was the architect of the Ipswich and West Moreton Building Society building, built in 1888, that can be seen in the left background. This would later become Bishop and Woodward.
