DescriptionOn the corner of Ellenborough and Brisbane Streets, opposite St Paul's Anglican Church. Originally built in the 1850s, it was thought to have been a one storey brick building built by T. Brennan with hand made bricks baked in an old gully near Martin Street. This new building was designed by architect Samuel Shenton and built in 1888 when John McGrath was the licensee. The building was demolished in 1986. Shenton also designed the Queensland Times building of the day and the home Garowie on Whitehill Road, Ipswich. Shenton was Mayor of Ipswich in 1871 and 1889 and was a councillor over a number of years, in the 1860s to 1890s.
