Don Preece Historic Oval (Historic Cricket Oval), 2 Springfield Parkway, Springfield
James Josey owned a considerable amount of land in O'Possum Creek (now Springfield), including his home "Eden Station". He purchased three hundred and ninety three acres of land for ninety eight pounds and five shillings on 7th July 1868 which included the land on which the historic cricket oval is located.
James died on 21 February 1903 and the land transferred to Thomas Bridson Cribb. In October 1907 a new Title was issued to James Clark Cribb and his wife Alice Elizabeth Cribb. In 1912, John Edwin Fenwick of Tarro, New South Wales became the next owner.
Portions 5, 6, 11, 12, 19A, 41 and 42 containing three thousand four hundred and eighty-five acres, one rood and twelve perches were transferred to the Moreton Shire Council on 15 March 1937, including the Fenwick Estate at 'Possum Creek, Goodna.
The land has been used as a timber reserve for sawmilling since at least the 1930s, including by C. A. Kruger & Sons Pty Ltd, who had their sawmill at Bundamba. C. A. Kruger & Sons took ownership of the land in April 1937. They took out a Mortage with the National Bank of Australasia Limited in June of the same year. Forestry workers cleared land to create a small cricket oval which was used regularly by employees.
Burnie Board purchased Portions 5, 6, 11, 12, 41 and 42 in June 1956, which transferred to Associated Forest Holdings Proprietary Limited in August of the same year.
Prior to 2013 the "Historic Oval" was commonly referred to as the Opossum Creek Cricket Ground. In July 2013 it was officially named the "Don Preece Historic Oval" in recognition of forest officer and fire warden for Association Forest Holdings, Don Preece. Don was well known in the district for his association with the Goodna State School and during the 1970s, he was the treasurer and secretary of the Goodna Rugby League Club.
In 2013-2014, Council commenced selective clearing of the historic oval and the surrounding area to enable community activation.
