Birch Family Park

The 'Birch Family Park' located in Bognuda Street, Bundamba is part of the Allura Bundamba residential estate. Construction commenced in September 2026 and is due to open to the public in 2027.

Park Name history
Members of the Birch family contacted Councillor Trevor Nardi on 24 February 2003, seeking recognition of their ancestors, Fred and Phyllis Birch, through the naming of a street or park in Bundamba. Fred and Phyllis Birch owned a large portion of the land on which the proposed development was to occur. The family's connection with Bundamba was formally recognised on 16 March 2016, when Ipswich City Council named the park at 59 River Road, Bundamba, 'Birch Family Park'.

Birch family and the Bundamba property
Fred and Phyllis Birch first purchased the Bundamba land, bounded by Bognuda Street, River Road and the easement adjacent to 44 Bognuda Street and the Bremer River in the mid-1930s. Having sold the land some years later, they repurchased much of it again in approximately 1950. On this occasion the portion that they owned was less than previously, with the undeveloped Archer Street being its northern boundary. In the 1960s it was sold to what was then known as Burnie Board.

During the two periods of ownership, they used it as a dairy farm, supplying milk to many residents in Bundamba and adjacent suburbs, conducting milk runs twice a day.
