Ipswich City Big Band

Ipswich City Big Band has been bringing the sound, energy and excitement of big band music to Ipswich and South East Queensland for more than 20 years.

Established in 2004 by local music teachers Sharon McInnes and Rose Salamanesa, the band was created to give musicians the opportunity to come together through a shared love of jazz and live performance.  More than two decades later, that sense of community remains at the heart of the band.

Today, Ipswich City Big Band brings together a talented collective of musicians and vocalists performing a diverse repertoire spanning classic swing and jazz, Latin, funk, pop, rock and contemporary big band arrangements.

Over its history, the band has become a fixture of the region's live music scene, performing at major community celebrations and festivals, the Brisbane Jazz Club and Ipswich Civic Centre.  Ipswich City Big Band has also shared the stage with acclaimed artists including Emma Pask, Tenori and Hetty Kate.

From the sophistication of the great swing era to modern favourites reimagined with the power of a full big band, Ipswich City Big Band combines soaring brass, driving rhythm, outstanding musicianship and vocals to create performances that are energetic, accessible and unmistakable fun. 

The band is also deeply connected to its home city, regularly contributing to the events and celebrations that bring the Ipswich community together.  Whether performing on a festival stage, in a concert hall or as part of a community celebration, Ipswich City Big Band's goal is simple: to create memorable live music experiences and share the joy of big band music with audiences of all ages.
