John Blaine was the manager and book keeper at the Bremer Mills for Joseph Fleming from May 1857. His wage was £250 a year.
John married Joseph's third daughter, Catherine. At one point he was living at the corner of the lane between East and Wharf Streets which was known as 'Jack Slack's lane'.
John and Joseph had a ginning-room in Clune's former Music Hall in Nicholas Street.
