The building was first repurposed as the Vault Nightclub in 1994. After several name changes, the nightclub venue had been closed for two years prior to Andre Samra becoming the business owner of the Brisbane Street premises in 2017.
In an article published in the Queensland Times on 4th August 2017, Samra had planned to spend a 'few hundred thousand dollars' to revitalise the building, including '$20,000 exclusively for a selfie-friendly ladies' bathroom.'
Switch opened in October 2017 and closed prior to Christmas of that year.
