John Doway was convicted in Antrim, Ireland for cow stealing, and he was transported to Australia in 1837, leaving his wife and children behind. Jane and their two daughters followed John to Australia in 1849, landing in Sydney or Newcastle.
John's Ticket of Leave issued for the Moreton Bay district was cancelled in 1851 for being absent, he was considered to be legally at large.
