The land was bought by Martin Byrne in 1846 and constructed in the same year, sold this property in 1926 to the Greenham’s. Byrne is well known in the Ipswich area for his introduction of the movie theatres in Ipswich in 1856.
In 1926 according to the Property Deeds, it changed hands to the Greenham family who were influential members of Ipswich since the leader of the family was a freehold resident of Ipswich, and councilman of Ipswich from 1880-1882. John Greenham would go on to purchase the entire corner of Nicholas and Brisbane Streets, opening many stores including Confectionary and Stationary. In 1913 the entire corner including the submitted building was renovated.
This structure is a bricked 2 floor block which was enlarged then connected in 1925 to Nolan’s Corner.
William and Richard Rawlings inherited the building on the death of Colin Rawlings. The Rawlings have been running a shoes and menswear shop in Ipswich since 1898. On 12 November 1964, they installed a parting wall for both floors. The bottom floor left currently houses Gemutlich Kitchenware, and the right is currently vacant.
The Cactus Espresso bar was on part of the ground floor for 3 years, and Monique Meier Trustee from 2009-2014.
