Description

History

In 1846 the population of Ipswich was recorded as 103, Ipswich had only had free settlers as residents since about 1842. The census conducted at this time was completed by the New South Wales Government. In the same year the total population of Australia was estimated to be approximately 293,249, and the total population of New South Wales was 196,704.
