Description

DescriptionFormerly Elders Wheelwright and Blacksmith shop. David Elder was born in Fifeshire Scotland in 1841, He trained as a blacksmith at Anstruther and migrated to Brisbane in 1884. He spent three months in Ipswich then moved to Rosewood and started his business. He made spring carts and farm wagons and won prizes for his ploughs and agricultural machinery.

A rudimentary early blacksmith’s shop with walls clad in weatherboard and corrugated galvanised iron and with a corrugated galvanised iron roof. The building is in the form of a double-gabled roof which presents two gabled ends to John Street. Gable infill is weatherboard, there is exposed roof framing and wall framing internally. A small skillion extends along the southern side towards William Street. Window opening consist in part of push-out timber and galvanised iron shutters. The building is set at natural ground level.
