The Cupitt family originated from the Kangaloon and Bowral districts of New South Wales. The first member of the Cupitt family to settle in Ipswich was Sidney Charles Crisford Cupitt (Sid), the son of Andrew Augustus Cupitt and Lilly Frances (nee Crisford), who were married in Gympie in 1909. Andrew and Lilly lived in Yarraman, Boonah and Sandgate before eventually moving to Ascot.
Sid's link to Ipswich came through his wife, Lillian Isabel (nee Gillis), whose family had been residents of Ipswich since around 1906.
