Woodonia, 11 Gray Street, Ipswich

The original Deed of Grant number 5972 for this property was purchased for £58 by William Ginn on 10 November 1862. When the land was subdivided in 1865, Robert Jones purchased 1 rood, 34 acres, ½ perch, being Allotment 1 of Section No. 38.  Produced on 5 December 1864 and Registered on 4 February 1865. On 25 February 1865, 24 & 9/10 perch was transferred to Frederick Slack being (part of) Allotment 1 Section 38.

In April 1886 a new title was issued to Joseph Ivett. Joseph was a well respected gentleman who worked was born in Thomas Street, Ipswich on 10 October 1855. He married Lucy Annie Green on 11 May 1887 and the family home was established in Grey-street. They had six children:

• Ethel Alma Ivett, born 20 March 1888 in Ipswich. She married Charles Henry Phillips on 28 December 1910. Ethel died on 24 December 1966.
• Heloise Ivett was born on 22 April 1889. She married Claud Leslie Elliot on 10 April 1920.
• Lucy Constance Ivett was born on 18 September 1893 in Ipswich. she married Albert John Scurrah in 1915. Lucy died on 3 August 1965.
• Annie Josephine Ivett was born on 17 July 1896 and she died on 7 January 1999.
• Harold Rider Ivett was born on 18 July 1900 and died at 6 months of age on 5 February 1901.
• Irene Marjorie Ivett was born in 1905.

An article in the Queensland Times on Thursday, 30 May 1912 provides details about the Ivett's 60th Wedding Anniversary held at their home “Woodonia” in Gray Street, Ipswich.

The Gordon Family history on the Internet records that the Queensland Electoral Roll of 1922 lists Jospeh Ivett, Accountant;  Lucy Annie Ivett, home duties; and Annie Josephine Ivett, home duties as living at Woodonia, Grey Street, Ipswich .  

When Joseph Ivett died, the property was transferred to his widow, Lucy Annie Ivett, and when Lucy Annie Ivett died, the property transferred to Annie Josephine Ivett, spinster of Ipswich (registered 19 April 1948). A newspaper article in the Queensland Times, dated Friday 15 October 1948 spoke of Miss A. J. Ivett, who was a foundation member of of the Churchill Baptist Ladies’ Guild.  The article noted that Miss Ivett would be leaving Ipswich soon. On 7 January 1911, a Queensland Times article noted that Miss Josey Ivett “Woodonia,” Gray-street, wass the guest of Mrs. Phillips, Norman Park, Brisbane. The property was subdivided in 1955, with Annie retaining Resub 1.
